Shirley A. Kenson, CPA general history:
Shirley resurrected the firm in 2006. The firm of Shirley A. Kenson, CPA had previously enjoyed 12 years of success as a local and growing CPA firm in Chula Vista between 1987 and 1999. In 1997, Shirley joined one of her larger clients, Impact Components, on a full time basis as Chief Financial Officer maintaining the practice concurrently until 1999. As Chief Financial Officer at Impact Components, Shirley grew sales from $7mil to $80mil, grew and managed the staff from 15 to 80 employees, established quality procedures, and instituted Human Resource policies while managing full responsibilities of all aspects of the business before returning to public accounting and re-establishing the firm and services of Shirley A. Kenson, CPA in 2006.
Much of the firm’s initial client base returned upon the re-opening in 2006 which helped to launch the firm’s success from the start. While growing the business, Shirley worked on a per-diem basis with associate firms. Per-diem work means providing tax and consulting services to another firm’s client base. The client remains the proprietary property of the associate firm and Shirley is paid an agreed upon fee for doing the work. These relationships are protected under the CPA Code of Ethics. Associate firm means other CPAs who have too much business to handle on their own and need to hire outside help to maintain service to their clients. The advantage provided while working for other associate firms on per-diem is that individual and business referrals were obtained as these associate firms did not want to accept any additional new clients and passed the referrals to Shirley. Combining these referrals with the primary referrals received through Shirley’s own client base has thankfully allowed for the firms growth thus far.
